BIO

Alexandra Pelosi is an American documentary filmmaker, author, and political commentator. She is best known for her HBO documentaries, which focus on political and social issues.

Pelosi was born in New York City in 1970 to Nancy and Paul Pelosi, the former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. She grew up in San Francisco, and graduated from Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service in 1992.

Pelosi began her career as a producer for NBC News, and went on to work for CBS News and MSNBC. In 2001, she created her first documentary for HBO, Journeys with George, which follows then-presidential candidate George W. Bush on the campaign trail. The film was nominated for two Emmy Awards, and launched her career as a filmmaker.

In 2004, Pelosi released her second documentary, Diary of a Political Tourist, which follows her travels around the United States to explore the 2004 presidential election. The film was nominated for three Emmy Awards, and won a Gracie Award in 2005.

In 2006, Pelosi released Friends of God: A Road Trip with Alexandra Pelosi, which follows her journey across the United States to meet with evangelical Christians, and explore the intersection of religion and politics.

Pelosi has also directed several HBO documentaries, including Right America: Feeling Wronged—Some Voices from the Campaign Trail, Homeless: The Motel Kids of Orange County, and Fall to Grace. In addition, she has written two books, Diary of a Political Tourist (2005) and The Women's Organization of Iran (2008).

Pelosi is also the executive producer of the HBO series The Words That Built America, a compilation of historic speeches from the Founding Fathers to present-day leaders.

Pelosi is passionate about social and political issues, and uses her platform to advocate for causes she believes in. She is an outspoken advocate of LGBT rights, and has appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show, The Daily Show, and Real Time with Bill Maher to discuss these issues.

Pelosi is an active philanthropist, and has supported organizations such as the San Francisco Food Bank, the ACLU, and the American Red Cross.

Throughout her career, Pelosi has been honored with numerous awards and accolades, including the Gracie Award, the Writers Guild of America Award, and the National Women's Political Caucus Abigail Adams Award. Pelosi currently resides in New York City.
