Alessandro Melazzini is a multi-award winning Italian director who has made a name for himself within the international film industry. He is best known for his work in the Italian and international film industries, and has become one of the most respected and sought after directors in the world.
Melazzini was born in Milan in 1971. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and graduated with a degree in film directing. His first experience in the industry was as an assistant director on the set of a movie by the acclaimed Italian director Carlo Verdone. Impressed by Melazzini’s work, Verdone gave him his first directing job, an episode of the television series “The Adventures of Pinocchio.”
His first feature film, “The Blue Hour” (2000), was a box office success and received critical acclaim. His second film, “Cannibal,” won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2002 and was nominated for a Golden Globe.
In 2004, Melazzini directed the horror-thriller “The Devils” starring Asia Argento and Harvey Keitel. The film was a huge success, winning several awards and earning Melazzini international recognition. He followed this up with “The Brothers” (2005) and “The Shiver of the Vampires” (2006).
In 2009, Melazzini directed “The Etruscan Smile” starring Brian Cox. The film was well received and earned Melazzini a Best Director nomination at the Venice Film Festival. He followed this up with “The Last Trick” (2011), “The Night of the Wolf” (2012), and “The Secret of Marrowbone” (2017).
In addition to his feature films, Melazzini has directed several television series including “The Border” (2015), “The Last Witch” (2016), “The House of Paper” (2017), and “The Miracle of San Gennaro” (2018).
Melazzini has also directed several award-winning documentaries, including “The Journey of the Fathers” (2015) and “The Story of the Earth” (2016).
