BIO

Alejo Hoijman is an acclaimed director, producer, and screenwriter from Argentina. He has been writing and directing feature films and television shows since the early 2000s. He is best known for his feature films Empathy (2019), The Shadow of a Friend (2016), and The Secret of the Woods (2016).

Hoijman grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he studied film and television at Universidad del Cine. After he graduated, he worked as a production assistant on several films and television shows, gradually working his way up to editor and assistant director.

In 2013, Hoijman made his feature film debut with his critically acclaimed psychological thriller, Empathy. The film follows a young man who must confront his inner demons after a tragedy in his family. It won several awards at international film festivals, including the Critics’ Prize at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival and the Best Feature Film Award at the London Latin American Film Festival.

His next film, The Shadow of a Friend (2016), was a coming-of-age drama about a teenage boy who develops a relationship with his father's best friend. The film was selected for screening at the Cannes Film Festival, where it earned critical praise.

In 2016, Hoijman directed the psychological drama The Secret of the Woods. The film follows a young woman who discovers a dark secret in her father's past. The film won the Best Feature Film Award at the London Latin American Film Festival.

Hoijman's most recent film, Empathy 2 (2019), is a sequel to his 2013 film. It follows the same characters from the original film, but with a focus on the psychological trauma the characters have experienced.
