Aldemar Matias is a Brazilian film director, photographer, and music video director. He was born in 1982 in the city of São Paulo and is a graduate of the University of São Paulo, where he studied cinematography and photography.

Matias is known for his award-winning work in music videos and short films, as well as his feature films. His debut feature, O Fim da Escuridão (The End of Darkness), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014, and was released in theaters in the United States and Brazil. The film won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in the same year.

In 2016, Matias released his second feature, O Olho de Vidro (The Glass Eye), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film also won the Grand Prize at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and was selected for screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. His most recent feature, A Noite da Morte (The Night of Death), released in 2020, won the Best Feature Award at the São Paulo International Film Festival.

Matias has also directed numerous music videos for Brazilian artists, including Anitta, Iza, and Tiago Iorc. His music videos have won awards at the MTV Video Music Awards and the Rio Music Video Festival.

Matias is an advocate for the Brazilian film industry, and has served as a judge for the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and the São Paulo International Film Festival. He is also the founder of a film production company, Filmes da Aldemar, which produces and distributes his own films.

Aldemar Matias is one of Brazil’s most promising film directors, and his work has been recognized and praised internationally. His films explore complex themes of family, identity, and the human condition, and his bold and creative vision has made him one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in Brazil.
