Alchemist, born Albert Johnson on November 2, 1977, is an American hip hop recording artist from Queens, New York City. He is best known for his work with Mobb Deep, Dilated Peoples, and other independent hip hop acts.

Alchemist’s father, a jazz musician, exposed him to a variety of music genres, while his mother was a fan of hip hop. Alchemist was inspired by the music of Run–D.M.C., as well as the production of Marley Marl and DJ Premier. He got his start in the music industry as a DJ at age 14.

In 1993, Alchemist joined Mobb Deep, a hip hop duo consisting of Prodigy and Havoc. He worked on several of their albums, including The Infamous, Hell on Earth, and Murda Muzik. His production credits include hits like “Shook Ones Pt. II” and “Survival of the Fittest.”

He has also worked with a wide variety of artists. Alchemist has produced for Eminem, Nas, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg, as well as independent acts like The Beatnuts, Dilated Peoples, and Mobb Deep. His work has been featured on the soundtracks of films such as 8 Mile, Baby Boy, and Notorious.
