A.J. Johnson (born April 10, 1962) is an American actor, comedian, director, producer, and writer. He is best known for his roles in the films House Party (1990), Friday (1995), and The Players Club (1998).

Born and raised in New York City, Johnson's father was an entrepreneur and his mother a school teacher. He attended the High School for the Performing Arts in Manhattan, where he studied acting and dance. After graduating in 1980, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.

Johnson’s first major role was in the 1990 film House Party, where he played the character “Play”. The movie was a commercial success and established Johnson as a star. He went on to appear in several other films including Friday (1995), The Players Club (1998), and the television series Martin (1992).

In addition to acting, Johnson has directed, produced, and written several projects. He wrote and directed the 2002 film Baby Boy, which starred Tyrese Gibson and Taraji P. Henson. He has also written and produced several short films, music videos, and documentaries.
