Ahmad Rashad is an American actor, comedian, and sportscaster who is best known for his work on NBC’s The Cosby Show and Inside the NFL. He was born Robert Earl Moore on November 19, 1949 in Portland, Oregon.
Rashad attended the University of Oregon, where he was an all-star wide receiver and kick returner. After college, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1972. In 1976, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills, who later released him. He then signed with the Seattle Seahawks, and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He retired from the NFL in 1982.
In 1983, Rashad began his career in television as a sports commentator. He became a regular on NBC's The Cosby Show in 1984, playing the role of Cliff Huxtable's friend, Glynn Turman. He also had guest roles on shows such as Night Court and Martin, as well as appearing in a few films such as House Party and Eddie.
In 1988, he became the co-host of the hit show Inside the NFL. He also served as a correspondent for NBC's NBA coverage. He then hosted a variety of programs, including National Geographic Explorer, NBA Inside Stuff, and the NFL's Thursday Night Football. He was also an analyst for NBA on TNT from 2002 to 2015.
In addition to his television career, he has also had a successful career in business. He founded the Ahmad Rashad Clothing Company, which sold sportswear and outdoor clothing. He also opened a chain of sports bars called Ahmad Rashad's.
Rashad has been married four times, including to singer and actress Phylicia Ayers-Allen, and currently is married to Sale Johnson, the ex-wife of billionaire real estate mogul Woody Johnson. He has five children.
