Adam MacDougall is an Australian actor who has gained notoriety for his roles in such films as The Matrix, Moulin Rouge!, and The Great Gatsby.

Born in Sydney in 1969, Adam MacDougall was raised by his parents in a small rural town in the Sutherland Shire. He developed a passion for acting from an early age, and at the age of 15, he moved to the United States to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.

After studying at the Stella Adler Conservatory and the Actor’s Studio in Los Angeles, Adam MacDougall made his big break in 1999 when he was cast opposite Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. His performance as Neo’s confidant, Cypher, won him critical acclaim and a place in the cult classic.

The following year, MacDougall starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! as the cynical aristocrat, Monsieur Le Chocolat. His performance earned him an AACTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor and cemented his reputation as a rising star.

MacDougall’s career continued to flourish and in 2013 he was cast in The Great Gatsby alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. He portrayed the character of Jay Gatsby’s chauffeur, Tom Buchanan, and the film was a huge success, winning several Oscars and BAFTAs.

In recent years, Adam MacDougall has focused his attention on the theatre. He has starred in several Off-Broadway productions including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Angels in America and the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon.

When not performing, Adam MacDougall is a passionate advocate for the environment. He regularly participates in beach clean-ups and other environmental initiatives and is a strong supporter of animal welfare organisations.
