About Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival

The Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival (YIDFF) is a biennial documentary festival held every odd-numbered year in Yamagata City, Japan. Founded in 1989 to mark the city's centennial, it was the first international documentary festival in Asia. The festival is known for its rigorous International Competition and its New Asian Currents strand, which champions emerging documentary voices across Asia.
