About Slamdance Film Festival

Slamdance is an independent film festival created by filmmakers to champion emerging, first-time directors working on limited budgets. After more than two decades in Park City, Utah, the festival relocated to Los Angeles in 2025 and continues to feature competitive sections for narrative features, documentary features, and shorts. Slamdance is an Academy Award-qualifying festival for animation and narrative shorts, and BAFTA-qualifying for animation, narrative and documentary shorts. Beyond the festival, the organization runs a year-round screenplay competition, the Slamdance Channel streaming platform, and Slamdance Polytechnic education programs.
