An experimental portrait of Karl Marx’s family’s hardships in London, blending original texts and historical photos with radical montage techniques.
The Marx Family - An experimental film on Marx's family hardships
Filmed with an old hand-cranked Parvo L camera and employing radical montage strategies, this experimental short offers an alternative portrait of Karl Marx's family and their impoverished life in London.
Combining original texts by Marx and his wife with historical photographs overlaid on images of an abandoned East Berlin building, the film paints a poignant picture of their struggles. Produced to celebrate Marx’s 100th birthday in 1983, the film faced rejection from officials and was released only five years later.
