Samir in the dust, A young Algerian man beyond an arid landscape
Director Mohamed Ouzine returns to his native Algeria to film his nephew Samir, a young man who makes a living out of smuggling fuel along the Moroccan border. While both men are family, they do not share the same interests and views on the landscape that surrounds them.
The arid climate, the brown ground and ocher colored mountains are for Samir a kind of limiting horizon, while for Ouzine, who emigrated to France many years ago, it is still a beautiful image about a territory that still does not understand or belong.
In their own intimacy emerges a dialogue about the human condition, framed by the sparse splendor of the Algerian landscape.
