A Married Couple. The War of the Sexes

A jewel of Canadian documentary filmmaking and part of the exclusive Criterion Collection, this documentary by Allan King broke all the parameters of documentary filmmaking by portraying with an almost visceral reality the relationship of a married couple in Toronto in 1969.

With a hand-held camera, King was able to penetrate the intimacy of this couple as they lived together in their Toronto home for 10 months. The result, a roller coaster of emotions, power roles and gender politics.

The film premiered in Cannes in 1970, as part as the Directors' Fortnight selection
