A family, a farm, and the remains of a changing world.
In the Aragonese town of Binéfar, a place transformed by the arrival of one of the largest slaughterhouses in Europe, José Ramón Capdevila tries to keep his family’s old farm alive. Between irrigation problems, community disputes, and his mother’s insistence to take better care of their deteriorating home, José Ramón can barely find a moment to rest.
The unexpected return of his son Raúl, after several failed attempts to find a job in the city, brings both relief and tension. Together they work the land and care for the animals while facing new conflicts over the construction of a shared water reservoir that threatens to divide the neighbors.
With an intimate and observational tone, Remainders (Los Saldos) captures the quiet rhythm of a rural family living between the past and an uncertain future, where every breeding cycle ends the same way: with the unprofitable pigs, the remainders, sent to the waste container. A moving and human portrait of labor, inheritance, and the transformation of rural Spain in the face of industrial change.
