Yuji Ueda is a Japanese film director and screenwriter known for his works in the horror and suspense genres. Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1957, Ueda studied at Nihon University College of Art and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981.

Ueda's career as a film director began with the horror film, Shikoku, released in 1999. He went on to direct a number of other horror films, including Ju-On: The Grudge (2002), Marebito (2004), Retribution (2006), and The Complex (2013).

Ueda has also written several screenplays, including those for Ju-On: The Grudge, Marebito, and The Complex. His screenplays often focus on themes of horror and suspense, and many of his films have been met with critical acclaim.

In addition to his work in the horror genre, Ueda has directed several other films, such as the romantic drama The Summer in Chikuma River (2009) and the drama Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files (2011). He has also written and directed a number of short films, including the award-winning drama A Light in the Dark (2011).
