Sarah Frei is an award-winning director of documentaries, narrative films, commercials, and music videos. She is a visionary and a master storyteller, creating compelling, emotionally resonant work.
Sarah was born in the suburbs of Chicago, and was raised in a family of filmmakers. She developed a love for storytelling and the craft of filmmaking at a young age, and was inspired by her parents’ enthusiasm for the medium. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a degree in film and television production.
During her time at university, Sarah began to focus on documentary filmmaking. She directed her first feature-length documentary, “The Other Side of the Lens”, about the lives of people living in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The film was an Official Selection at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival.
Following the success of “The Other Side of the Lens”, Sarah’s career took off. She directed her second feature-length documentary, “The Road to Freedom”, about the struggles of refugees in the Middle East, which was an Official Selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.
In addition to her feature-length documentaries, Sarah has directed numerous short documentaries, as well as commercials, music videos, and narrative films. Her work has been featured in festivals around the world, and her films have won numerous awards, including Best Documentary Feature at the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival.
Sarah’s work is known for its powerful storytelling, as well as its sensitivity to the human condition. She is an astute observer of the world around her, and her films often explore difficult subjects with a unique blend of empathy and insight.
