Matteo Zoppis (born September 5, 1985) is an Italian film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his films, "The Grand Hotel" (2017) and "The Passengers" (2019).
Born in Venice, Italy, Zoppis graduated from the University of Padova in 2007 with a degree in philosophy. After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance cinematographer for multiple projects.
In 2012, he made his directorial debut with the short film "The Third Eye," which screened at several international film festivals and received critical acclaim. His first feature film, "The Grand Hotel," also premiered at several film festivals to positive reviews. The film won numerous awards including the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Rome Film Festival and the Best Film at the 2017 Turin Film Festival.
In 2019, Zoppis wrote and directed the drama film "The Passengers," starring Francesco Scianna and Carolina Crescentini. The film tells the story of a young woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after being stranded in a remote mountain village. The film was praised by critics for its visuals and performances.
In addition to his filmmaking career, Zoppis is also a painter and a teacher. He has taught film directing at the University of Padova since 2013. He has also exhibited his artwork in various galleries in Italy and abroad.
